Situated at 5km form colmar, built in 1279 on a site that has been occupied since the Bronze Age, Hohlandsbourg castle was the political seat of the Habsburgs in Alsace up until the Thirty Year’s War, when it was ruined.
It is the largest monument left by the Habsburgs in Haute-Alsace, and now welcomes more than 45,000 visitors each year.
Discover the castle at your own pace and as you wish, with the aid of our brochure which contains a detailed map and a brief history.
Duration: 30 to 45 minutes
The medieval garden
The medieval garden has been designed and created in 2000 by the Colmar-Schweitzer Lions Club, and it was built by the Department of Horticulture of th “Institut Medico Profressionel" St Joseph de Colmar“ based at Marbach. This garden is not a true medieval garden, but it is intended to recreate the general atmosphere of a typical castle garden.
Discover, depending on the season the different plants: aromatics and condiments, curative plants, vegetables and flowers.
