"Hôtels au naturel"

Hôtels au Naturel is a network of labelled hotels in French regional nature parks.

There are five in the Haut-Rhin They are family hotels in calm areas, in a natural setting, which give priority to local products and regional know-how.

The hotel and its personnel can give you information about the Nature park, guided outings, circuits, sites to visit and any practical information needed.

The Clef Verte (Green Key) is an environmental management label for tourist accommodation, rewarding camp sites, hotels and holiday rentals for their environmental drive.

The label is a tourist promotion tool awarded to professionals who meet a number of specific criteria linked to quality of life, general management practices respecting the environment, informing and raising public and personnel awareness about waste, water and energy management.

Holiday rental accommodation

"Gîtes Panda" (Panda holiday rentals)

This is accommodation approved by Gîtes de France, checked and classifed by the WWF and selected by the regional nature parks. There are 14 in Alsace and they meet specific criteria for nature conservation and are located in regional or national nature parks. They provide access to hiking circuits where the fauna, flora and landscapes can be observed. Every "gîte panda" has a discovery pack containing all the information needed to explore the surrounding area.

The "ECOGITES" project

An environmental labelling project by Gîtes de France, ECOGITES is currently being organized.

It will improve the "environmental" quality of holiday rentals, which benefits Gîtes de France members and tenants as well as the regional and planetary environment.

The following items are analysed within the context of application for labelling :

• Integration into the site and its natural environment and heritage;
• Energy (opaque walls, windows and doors, thermal bridges, passive solar energy, hygienic ventilation, heating system, hot water supply);
• Other energy uses (cooling and comfort in summer);
• Cooking;
• Specific electricity;
• Electricity produced by renewable energy;
• Water;
• Waste.

Energievie programme

The actions of the Energievie programme encourage tourist professionals and private individuals to use renewable energy. Some types of acccommodation are therefore equipped with solar panels or wood-burning stoves to reduce their consumption.
