Climb the Grand Ballon, highest peak in the Vosges, and discover an exceptional panoramic view!

The summit, at an altitude of 1424 metres, has a unique view over the plain of Alsace, the Black Forest and even the Swiss Alps and Mont Blanc.

You will start from Moosch and reach the Grand Ballon after several hours of walking.
History lovers can also gather at the monument to World War 1 "Chasseurs alpins" (mountain infantry), erected in 1927. The next day, after a night of restorative sleep at the hôtel du Grand Ballon, you will find a valley full of surprises and end your descent into the Thur valley with a visit to the beautiful town of Thann, where you will spend the night.

Programme :

Day 1 :

• Arrival in TGV (high speed train) at Mulhouse station, then TER (regional train) on the Mulhouse – Kruth line, stop at Moosch (35 minutes)
• Climb to the summit of the Grand Ballon (1426m) from Moosch. On arrival at the summit, radar dome, orientation table, monument to the "Diables bleus" (Blue devils) panoramic view in good weather.
• Dinner and night at the Hôtel du Grand Ballon

Day 2 :

• Breakfast at the hotel
• In the morning, descent to Firstacker then Freundstein farm-inn (lunch can be taken here). Arrival in Thann at the end of the afternoon.
• Dinner and night at the Hôtel de la Cigogne

Day 3 :

• Breakfast at the hotel.
• Free day – Free visit to Saint Thiébaut Collegiate church
• Return to Mulhouse TGV station via the TER Kruth – Mulhouse line (30 minutes).
  N.B.: In July 2007, this part will be covered by bus.
