Husseren-Wesserling Park - Textile Museum
Husseren-Wesserling
Set on lands that historically hosted an important textile tradition, Wesserling Park retraces the extraordinary industrial adventure of this former royal manufacturer. Innovative, patrimonial and respectful of the environment, the site surprises visitors with its sumptuous gardens (with "Jardin Remarquable" status) and its collection of buildings related to the industry that are unique in France (factories, pattern houses, masters’ houses, grand boiler room, farm etc.).
The park’s textile museum is original, associating the history of the site with contemporary art. Spinning, weaving and screen-printing demonstrations also revive the factory trades from the end of the 18th to the start of the 19th century. The Park and its heritage trail form a pleasant walking area, to be discovered all year round with family and friends.
Highlights of the textile heritage centre
- Les Ateliers de l’indiennage (1762-184): spinning, weaving and screen-printing demonstrations every Sunday of the year, during school holidays and daily from mid-June to the start of October
- The Milaine Micoton Trail: for playful discovery for children
- The Heritage Trail: discover a collection of industrial buildings that are the only examples of their kind to be found in France
The Wesserling Gardens
The five Wesserling Gardens feature very different atmospheres, with beautiful, old heritage trees enclosing each space. The site as a whole constitutes the largest garden in Alsace to have "Monument Historique" status.
- The vegetable patch – succulent and full of sweet scents!
- The regular French garden?– geometrical rigour and large spaces
- The English garden – mysterious and romantic
- The Mediterranean terraces – exoticism and colour
- The rural park – calm and peaceful
